Oil prices near $100 after attacks disrupt Saudi energy operations
Saudi Arabia temporarily halted some operations at energy facilities in its southern region after attacks, with the country saying it is working to ensure safety and maintain operations.
Saudi Arabia temporarily halted some operations at energy facilities in its southern region bordering Yemen after attacks hit energy sites on Tuesday morning local time, according to the Saudi Press Agency. The agency, citing an official source at the Ministry of Energy, said several energy sector facilities and installations were targeted. Saudi officials also said the attacks injured several residents, though they did not specify which energy sites were targeted or which operations were disrupted.
OilPrice reported that the outages come amid continued pressure on regional energy flows tied to the conflict involving Iran and its allies in Yemen. In July, the Houthis threatened Saudi shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, adding further strain to Middle East oil and shipping routes.
The report also noted that the Houthis have targeted Saudi Aramco’s Jazan oil refinery on the Red Sea coast multiple times since July. The latest attack on the 400,000-barrel-per-day refinery took place on Monday, while Saudi Arabia is moving more oil west to avoid the Strait of Hormuz, as oil prices continue to climb toward $100.
