White-hat party returns 3,400 BTC to Liquid federation wallet
The return left about 598.5 BTC, valued around $48 million, at the holder address as an implied bounty fee.
Bitcoin Magazine reports that a self-described “white hat” party returned 3,400 BTC to the Liquid Network federation wallet on Monday after Blockstream said bridge nodes were patched.
According to the report, the transfer was confirmed at 16:09 UTC on September 7. It moved 3,400 BTC back to the labeled Liquid peg script address, while sending roughly 598.5 BTC back as change to the “white hat” hacker address.
The transactions followed a day of messages written into Bitcoin blocks, including an initial on-chain note instructing Blockstream to contact the white hats on chain. The report also says Blockstream-linked responses included encrypted payloads and PGP signatures that were verifiable against Blockstream’s published security key.
The report states the white hats sent back about 85% of the withdrawn funds and kept about 15%, described as an implied finder’s fee, with the remaining 598 BTC figure also framed as around $48 million.
