Putin and Trump discuss Ukraine settlement in hour-long call
The Kremlin said the leaders focused on a settlement in Ukraine after US negotiators visited Moscow and Kyiv over the weekend.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump discussed the Ukraine conflict in an “extremely frank” and constructive phone call lasting about an hour, according to the Kremlin, via SCMP Economy.
The call came after US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv over the weekend to try to restart long stalled US efforts to end the fighting, the outlet reported.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said during the call the two leaders focused on the issue of reaching a settlement in Ukraine, with Trump calling for a speedy end to the fighting.
Ushakov added that Putin presented an “objective and detailed analysis” of the frontline situation, while Kyiv has said face to face talks could happen as early as this month, and the Kremlin previously said it was “too early” to discuss venues or dates.
