Singapore police probe racist online comments tied to Nepal floods, Air India

Police said they identified and interviewed five people aged 29 to 66 as part of the probe.

Singapore police are investigating online comments about the Nepal-Tibet disaster and discussions tied to Singapore Airlines’ investment in Air India, according to SCMP Economy.

The outlet reports that Senior Minister K Shanmugam said authorities are looking into what he called shameful racist and xenophobic remarks, and that police received reports and began investigating the posts.

Police confirmed they identified and interviewed five people, ages 29 to 66, connected to the comments, and said they will continue to identify those responsible as investigations are ongoing.

Police added they take a serious view of conduct that could wound racial feelings or incite hostility between racial groups, but said they cannot comment further on individual cases while the investigation continues.
