U.S. military destroys five Iranian oil tankers after attack attempt

Centcom said the tankers were destroyed after an attempted attack on an American warship near the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. military destroyed five Iranian oil tankers after what Centcom described as an attempted attack on an American warship, in renewed clashes involving Iran near the Strait of Hormuz, CNBC Markets reported.

CNBC World said the incident marks another round of attacks between the U.S. and Iran in the waterway that is central to global shipping and energy flows.

The reporting also notes that President Donald Trump said oil prices will drop quickly once the Iran war ends, linking the conflict to expectations for crude prices.
