First Student and others honored for workers’ compensation programs

Risk & Insurance highlighted the winners of the 2026 Theo Transportation & Logistics Awards, an honor recognizing workers’ compensation programs for their service to injured employees and operational results. The awards, now in their second year, featured 28 winners across the country’s workers’ comp landscape.

Among the transportation and logistics honorees, C.R. England’s workers’ compensation program was noted for focusing on injured drivers by reaching them wherever they are. First Student was recognized for deploying dedicated telephonic case managers, using injury video evidence systematically, and addressing Medicare exposure.

The coverage also pointed to First Student’s handling of workers’ compensation supporting the largest school bus fleet in North America, framing care for injured employees and strong financial outcomes as aligned goals. Rumpke Waste & Recycling was cited for building a workers’ compensation program with sustained cost reductions and a 98% return-to-work rate.
