Huawei’s criminal trial moves into second day in Brooklyn
Prosecutors told jurors Huawei built global telecom leadership through alleged theft, lies, and cover-ups, while Huawei says employees who broke policies were punished.
Huawei Technologies’ landmark criminal case continued into its second day of testimony on Thursday in Brooklyn, New York, with key witnesses expected to testify, according to SCMP Economy.
On the opening day, a US government lawyer told federal jurors that Huawei engaged in criminal activities to pursue “growth at any cost,” while a company lawyer said employees who violated company policies were punished.
SCMP Economy reports that Justice Department lawyer Taylor Stout argued a “culture of crime” existed at Huawei for more than 20 years, rooted in leadership that includes founder Ren Zhengfei and his daughter Meng Wanzhou.
The government also referenced Huawei’s 2021 admission related to sanctions on Iran and the defense disputed whether Meng’s admission should be treated as a “confession,” noting she did not admit to deliberately deceiving any government officials or banks.
