Palliser Capital boosts stake in WUS Printed Circuit to above 5%
Palliser says Taiwan’s AI and Nvidia supply chain backdrop, plus limited coverage of WUS’s valuation, are key reasons for its activist focus.
Activist hedge fund Palliser Capital has increased its stake in Taiwanese printed circuit board maker WUS Printed Circuit to more than 5% from 4.3%, making it a major shareholder under Taiwan exchange rules, according to a report cited by Hedgeweek.
The increase follows what the outlet describes as a regulatory foiling, as Palliser intensifies its search for undervalued companies positioned to benefit from the AI boom across Taiwan and Japan. Palliser founder and chief investment officer James Smith said Taiwan is among the firm’s most attractive markets, pointing to AI demand and the Nvidia supply chain as a particularly compelling area.
Smith said Palliser had already urged WUS in June to consider steps to improve shareholder value, including a potential privatisation. He added that Palliser typically targets companies with valuations of about $1 billion to $10 billion where it sees room for a valuation re-rating.
The report also highlights WUS’s business focus on advanced circuit boards used in data centres and notes that Palliser was attracted to the company’s lack of a controlling family or government shareholder. Hedgeweek further says Palliser has been building an activist presence in Japan, with disclosed investments in Ajinomoto and Toto.
