Tate brothers denied release in Miami jail during UK extradition fight
A US magistrate judge said the brothers’ wealth and frequent international travel made them quintessential flight risks as Britain seeks their extradition on rape charges.
Social media influencers Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 38, lost their bid for release from a Miami jail as they contest extradition to Britain, where they are wanted on rape charges, according to Reuters via SCMP Economy.
Miami-based US Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis denied bail, saying their wealth and frequent international travel meant they posed an exceptional risk of fleeing the jurisdiction.
In court, the judge said the record reflected an exceptional capacity to flee, adding that the brothers may not, in fact, possess the extravagant holdings they portray online.
The Tates’ lawyers said they would continue to defend themselves and engage with legal processes in each jurisdiction, after the pair were arrested in Miami on July 18 following a British extradition request.
