UK police expand probe into Reform UK over foreign funding claims

The Metropolitan Police said it found potential offences tied to donations and polling, while Reform denied wrongdoing and said it would cooperate with investigators.

British police said on Wednesday they are widening a criminal investigation into the populist Reform UK party to cover allegations raised in a documentary about plans to break electoral law relating to foreign funding, according to Reuters via SCMP Economy. Reform, led by Nigel Farage, denied any wrongdoing. The party said it would fully cooperate with the investigation, and Farage was described as already facing scrutiny from a parliamentary watchdog over earlier donations. The Reuters report said Farage was forced to sack two senior aides last week after an undercover investigation was aired. It showed then policy head James Orr and Farage’s former right hand man Dan Jukes discussing funding with a supposed US businessman and his British based son, including conversations about a payment for three opinion polls commissioned by the party. Reform launched an internal investigation on Friday and said it was the victim of a hoax. The Metropolitan Police said its detectives assessed reports about donations and polling involving a political party and determined there were potential offences requiring investigation.
