$161M in decade-old Bitcoin moved from four long-dormant wallets

Galaxy Research data shows the wallets transferred 1,971.03 BTC between Sept. 6 and Sept. 22, including a 600 BTC move worth about $51.9 million that occurred just hours before the report.

Four long-dormant Bitcoin wallets transferred a combined $161 million over the past two weeks, according to blockchain monitoring cited by Decrypt. Galaxy Research said the wallets moved 1,971.03 BTC between Sept. 6 and Sept. 22.

The largest transfer came from a wallet holding 1,260.78 BTC, which had been idle since July 2016. Decrypt reported the coins were worth about $100.63 million at the time of measurement, and cited a potential gain of roughly 12,122% on a cost basis near $652.

Other wallets described in the monitoring were also dormant for more than a decade, including one holding 10.25 BTC that last moved in March 2011 and another holding 100 BTC that was last active in November 2011. Decrypt reported the March 2011 wallet was up more than 8.38 million percent from an average cost around $1, while the November 2011 wallet was up roughly 2.49 million percent.

Decrypt also said the most recent activity involved a wallet holding 600 BTC worth about $51.9 million, moving coins dormant since July 2012, a 14.2-year span. Three of the four wallets carried a “Noah Doe” lawsuit tag tied to a New York case seeking to declare thousands of dormant Bitcoin addresses abandoned property, and the recipient of the latest 600 BTC transfer was not identified on-chain.
