Asia set for highest September crude imports since February 2024
Expected crude intake rises to 23.96 million bpd, still about 13% below pre-war levels despite a partial rebound in recent months.
Asia is expected to import 23.96 million barrels per day of crude oil in September, the highest monthly volume since February, according to Kpler data cited by Reuters’ Asia Commodities and Energy Columnist Clyde Russell.
The projected figure would top the 23.38 million bpd that arrived in August and would be the highest since February, the month just before the Iran war began and disrupted Middle East supply.
While purchases by Asian refiners have recovered from the 10-year lows seen in April and May, imports remain below pre-war levels by about 13%, Russell’s estimates show.
Russell also noted that China, the world’s biggest crude buyer, imported 8.93 million bpd in August, up 6.2% from July, but still below February levels.
