Bitcoin and ethereum open near 8-month highs as rallies continue
Bitcoin opened at $86,195.28 and traded at $85,600.03 by 7:26 a.m. ET, while ethereum opened at $2,753.25 and slipped to $2,725.32 by the same time.
Bitcoin and ethereum started Wednesday, September 23, 2026 near 8-month highs, with price action following recent gains in the broader crypto complex, according to Yahoo Finance.
Bitcoin opened at $86,195.28, and by 7:26 a.m. ET it was lower at $85,600.03. Ethereum opened at $2,753.25, down 0.8% from Tuesday’s opening, and traded at $2,725.32 at 7:26 a.m. ET.
Yahoo Finance attributed the ongoing bid to developments tied to renewed market expectations, noting that President Trump is set to host Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington this week. The outlet also cited analyst commentary that the bitcoin move looks credible, with Fundstrat head of digital assets Sean Farrell saying the crypto winter appears over, while Compass Point analyst Ed Engel said the market may be in the early innings of a new bull market.
The rally is also being supported by what researchers described as renewed ETF demand and a short squeeze, according to Yahoo Finance, which said Nicolai S{5}ondergaard at Nansen pointed to traders forced to cover shorts as additional fuel for the move.
