US stock futures slip as Nasdaq 100 stays near record levels
Falling crude oil prices, expectations for inflation to cool, and renewed buying in chip and technology stocks helped keep the Nasdaq 100 steady after consecutive record highs.
US stock futures pointed in different directions on September 23, as the Nasdaq 100 stayed near its record highs following back-to-back gains. According to LiveMint Markets, S&P 500 futures were marginally higher around 5 a.m. ET near their all-time peak, while Nasdaq 100 futures remained flat and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up about 0.04%.
The broader tone was supported by a continued decline in crude oil prices, which markets have been interpreting as a potential input for bringing inflation under control. LiveMint Markets also linked the technology-led advance to renewed buying in chip and technology stocks.
Oil remained lower for a fifth straight day as traders weighed efforts to restore disrupted oil flows tied to the conflict in the Middle East. LiveMint Markets added that Saudi Arabia was reportedly preparing to restart exports through its East-West pipeline in the coming days, which could allow the kingdom to route shipments in a way that bypasses the contested Strait of Hormuz.
Investors also focused on AI themes, including a strong reception to Meta’s AI assistant, Muse, which analysts say could benefit technology infrastructure stocks. LiveMint Markets said AI also remains part of the policy backdrop, with expectations that it will feature when Trump meets Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington this week, alongside ongoing debate in the US about whether to slow AI development.
