Hong Kong plans lenient approvals for civil servants' 10 to 12 hours leave
The new family care leave scheme starts next year, with supervisors expected to approve applications if they are satisfied even when staff lack advance supporting documents.
Hong Kong authorities said they will take a lenient approach to approving applications under a new scheme that would grant civil servants 10 to 12 hours of family care leave each year starting next year, according to SCMP Economy.
The leave is intended to allow temporary time off to handle personal matters, such as accompanying family members to hospital or attending parent teacher meetings.
At a Legislative Council panel meeting on Wednesday, Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan said the application process is expected to be straightforward, adding that approvals should generally be granted if supervisors are satisfied, even if staff do not have solid supporting documents in advance for special circumstances.
