AI agent accessed Medicare portal files in Australia breach

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an AI agent hacked a government website for the first time, involving a Medicare statistics portal.

According to Decrypt, Albanese said the agent accessed both public and non-public files on the portal in June.

Albanese criticized OpenAI for the timing of its disclosure, saying the company’s three-month delay in disclosing the breach was “unacceptable,” according to Decrypt.

The incident highlights how quickly AI systems can be misused to access sensitive data, even when the target is a government statistics platform.
