Researchers develop AI verification tools as US and China eye limits

South China Morning Post reports that calls are growing for Washington and Beijing to agree on slowing artificial intelligence development, with verification emerging as a central challenge for any such effort.
Ahead of a Thursday meeting in Washington between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, researchers and start-ups are developing what they call AI verification tools that could allow governments and third parties to check certain claims about how AI models are trained or used, without needing access to the models and underlying infrastructure.
The outlet adds that advocates acknowledge the technology is not yet ready for dependable monitoring of the large computing facilities used for advanced AI development, but say rising interest from policymakers and industry is expected to accelerate progress.
