AO World completes acquisition of Jessops camera retailer
AO bought Jessops’ remaining seven UK stores for an undisclosed sum, using existing cash resources.
AO World said it has completed its acquisition of the camera retailer Jessops, buying the business from Peter Jones. The online electricals group said the deal includes Jessops’ remaining seven stores across the UK.
AO did not disclose the purchase price, and said it will fund the transaction from its existing cash resources. The company framed the move as part of a wider strategy to expand beyond its core categories, including white goods, mobile phones and televisions.
Jessops specializes in buying and selling secondhand digital cameras, lenses and photography accessories. AO said it expects Jessops to grow over the next 12 months by leveraging AO’s scale, web traffic and operational expertise.
According to Jessops’ most recently filed accounts, the camera retailer reported 6.5% revenue growth to £19.8 million last year, while narrowing its pre-tax loss to £1.0 million from £1.17 million in 2024. Jessops has had a troubled history, including multiple stints in administration, and Peter Jones previously bought the chain out of administration in 2013.
