Bentley unveils first fully electric Torcal SUV
Bentley says the Torcal can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes on a 400kW charger, with up to 375 miles of range.
Bentley has unveiled its first fully electric vehicle, the Torcal SUV, after investing £350 million to upgrade its Cheshire factory in Crewe. The company said the Torcal will be built on a new production line at the site, which has served as Bentley’s headquarters since 1946.
The UK government said the investment will support 4,000 high value local jobs in Crewe and help strengthen automotive supply chains, noting Bentley is supplied by more than 700 businesses, including 82 within a 50 mile radius of its base. Business secretary Jonathan Reynolds framed the move as the latest boost for Britain’s automotive industry amid headwinds for UK carmakers.
Bentley said the Torcal uses a 113kWh battery, targeting a range of up to 375 miles, and that it can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes with a 400kW charger. The Torcal S is described as Bentley’s most powerful model yet, with a top speed of 162 mph and 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, while the standard Torcal is rated at up to 155 mph with 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds.
BBC Business said the rollout comes as the UK motor industry faces pressure, including recent job cuts announced by JLR and broader calls to slow the shift to a fully EV future. Bentley chairman and chief executive Dr Frank Steffen Walliser called the Torcal “one of the best Bentleys ever,” describing it as a blend of luxury and electric technology.
