Meta unveils Ray-Ban Meta audio glasses without a camera
Meta says the Ray-Ban Meta Audio frames are lighter, the battery life is improved, and the camera-free design cuts privacy concerns tied to earlier models.
Meta has unveiled a new version of its AI-powered smart glasses with Ray-Ban, called Ray-Ban Meta Audio, removing the camera from the earlier camera-enabled model that sparked widespread privacy backlash.
BBC Business reports that the original Meta Glasses were linked by critics to allegations of filming people without consent, with some UK venues and institutions, including JD Wetherspoon pubs and certain schools, choosing to ban them.
Meta says the audio-only product is not a rushed response to public anger and has been in development for two years. The company also positions the audio model as cheaper than its camera-equipped counterparts, with a lighter frame and better battery life.
The glasses are designed to work as an extension of a phone using Bluetooth and Meta’s AI app, enabling functions such as phone calls and music through audio delivered directly into the ear, according to BBC Business.
