Russia starts crude exports from Vostok Oil Arctic project
About 250,000 metric tons were loaded in September, and industry sources expect exports near 150,000 barrels per day in 2025.
Russia has begun commercial crude exports from Rosneft’s Vostok Oil project, with the first barrels loaded onto ice-class tankers at the new Arctic terminal after years of sanctions, investor exits, and construction delays, according to OilPrice.
In September, three ice-class tankers loaded about 250,000 metric tons of crude from the Bukhta Sever terminal on Russia’s Taimyr Peninsula, with two tankers sending the cargo to Murmansk for ship-to-ship transfer and another heading to Asia via the Northern Sea Route.
OilPrice said a fourth tanker is waiting to load. Industry sources expect exports to average about 150,000 barrels per day this year, equal to roughly 7.5% of an earlier 2 million bpd target for Vostok.
Rosneft said the supply ramp could rise as northern fields develop, aiming to lift exports to around 600,000 bpd in the second half of 2027 and 1 million bpd by 2030. The project spans 13 fields with an estimated 50 billion barrels of low-sulfur crude, and it includes a 790-kilometer pipeline to a 100-tank storage hub at Bukhta Sever.
