US and China extend tariff truce through January 10

China and the United States have agreed to extend a tariff truce that was set to expire in November, keeping the deal in place for two months through January 10, according to a report by SCMP Economy.

The outlet said the agreement was paired with US President Donald Trump personally welcoming Chinese leader Xi Jinping on the tarmac as the state visit began, with analysts characterizing the start as positive despite wider rivalry between the two countries.

SCMP Economy cited John Gong, a professor of economics at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, who said the shorter than expected extension is still an encouraging sign that both sides can effectively manage their differences.
