Venezuela interim president pledges elections at UN, without a date

Delcy Rodriguez said the government has started talks with the opposition and plans to prepare national institutions for the electoral process.

Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez told the UN General Assembly that the country will hold elections as part of a transition described as moving toward “full democracy,” but she did not provide a specific date for the vote, according to Reuters via SCMP Economy.

Rodriguez said the government has initiated talks with the opposition and will guarantee the participation of all political forces.

She also said Venezuelan national institutions are being prepared for the electoral process, Reuters reported.

Rodriguez came to power after American forces captured then-President Nicolas Maduro in a January raid, Reuters added.
