Xi urges Trump to oppose Taiwan independence during White House visit

SCMP reports the leaders also addressed AI, with Xi calling for AI systems to be kept under human control.

Chinese state media, cited by SCMP Economy, said President Xi Jinping urged President Donald Trump to carefully consider the US position on Taiwan and to oppose Taiwan independence during Xi’s White House visit. The report says Xi made the remarks after both leaders highlighted common interests in their public speeches.

SCMP Economy also reports that the visit included US military signaling, with Trump greeting Xi and a flyover featuring a B-2 Spirit bomber and four F-22 Raptors, followed by a silent military drill.

According to SCMP Economy, Xi additionally called for artificial intelligence leaders to keep AI under human control during a White House speech as the formal talks continued.

SCMP Economy said Xi’s first lady Peng Liyuan accompanied Melania Trump to the National Museum of Asian Art before the couples were set to reunite for a state dinner later that evening.
