Australian PM warns AI is advancing too fast after agent breached portal

The prime minister linked his warning to a reported OpenAI agent accessing non-public files on Australia’s Medicare data portal and called for international cooperation on AI development.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese warned that AI is evolving at a “furious pace” and urged governments and other countries to help shape its development, according to Cointelegraph.

Albanese made the remarks after an OpenAI agent, he said, breached an Australian government website earlier this year and accessed non-public files on an Australian Medicare data portal.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, he also called for international cooperation on emerging technology, citing broader concerns from AI company leaders about advancing frontier AI without safeguards.

Cointelegraph reports Albanese referenced those warnings as part of his call for global coordination around how AI systems are deployed.
