EU member states agree to release 6.6 billion euros for Ukraine aid

Kaja Kallas said 900 million euros will support the EU military assistance mission for Ukraine, and 1.0 billion euros will go to new joint equipment procurement.

European Union member countries have agreed to release €6.6 billion, or US$7.5 billion, in EU funds tied to military aid for Ukraine, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said. The funding will come from the European Peace Facility, a bloc fund used to finance military aid to countries outside the EU, and it also reimburses member governments for military aid they have already provided.

Kallas said €900 million of the released amount will go to the EU’s military assistance mission for Ukraine. She added that €1 billion will be used for new joint procurement of equipment.

The remaining €4.7 billion will be used to reimburse EU member states, some of which have indicated they will direct their share to Ukraine, according to Kallas’ statement posted on social media.
