France seeks to keep the UK out of the EU 'Made in Europe' plan

The policy is aimed at shielding European firms from what France calls unfair, state subsidised Chinese competition, and it is still under negotiation.

France is pushing for the EU’s “Made in Europe” law not to include the UK, a move that could leave British companies at a disadvantage in the race to supply European countries with low carbon technologies and electric cars, according to the Guardian Business.

The plan was raised by French policy minister Andy Burnham after he met European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the UN general assembly earlier this week.

The policy, which remains under negotiation, is designed to protect European companies from intense competition, which France describes as unfair and driven by state subsidised activity from China.

The French government said it fears British businesses could be collateral damage, emphasizing that if the UK is not in the EU internal market, it should not get the same protections.
