Healey appoints Ravinder Athwal as senior adviser

Economist Ravinder Athwal, who wrote Labour’s 2024 manifesto, has been appointed to a senior adviser role for UK Chancellor John Healey.

The move is described as likely to fuel speculation about an early general election.

The chancellor wants to strengthen his team ahead of a budget scheduled for 28 October, with the economy described as being affected by high oil prices and rising government borrowing costs.

Athwal is said to have been poached from Flint Global, where he worked in a senior special adviser capacity.
