Indian equities extend seventh straight weekly decline
The Nifty 50 rose 0.3% on Friday but still finished the week down 0.9%, while the Sensex posted a 0.4% gain yet fell 0.5% weekly.
Indian equity benchmarks inched higher on Friday but extended a seventh straight weekly decline, with the market struggling to find sustained support after a slide that began in mid-August, LiveMint Markets reported.
On Friday, the Nifty 50 rose 0.34% to 23,140.50 and the Sensex gained 0.43% to 73,895.74, but both indices ended the week lower, down 0.88% for Nifty 50 and 0.53% for the Sensex.
A Mint analysis highlighted that the Sensex’s seven-week slide from 14 August to 25 September matches the losing streak seen during the February to April 2020 pandemic sell-off.
The report said oil prices and foreign selling weighed on equities, while regulatory changes kept financial businesses in focus.
