Institutions held bitcoin during crypto sell-off, some added
A Bitwise Asset Management survey of 15 institutions found none reduced crypto allocations during a period when bitcoin prices fell about half between October 2025 and April 2026.
Bitcoin Magazine, citing new research from Bitwise Asset Management, reported that the world’s largest institutional investors largely held their bitcoin positions through a sharp crypto drawdown, with some reportedly buying more. The article says bitcoin prices were cut in half between October 2025 and April 2026, yet none of the 15 institutions interviewed reduced their crypto allocation during the sell-off. It also says that every institution in the study that owns crypto owns bitcoin. According to the report described by Bitcoin Magazine, the institutions involved included endowments, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and public companies. When asked what would make them exit, none cited a downturn in price, and the article adds that for nearly all participants, bitcoin was their first crypto purchase, their largest holding, and the one they had held the longest.
