Andy Burnham says fiscal stability is crucial ahead of UK budget

Burnham linked tighter public finances to inflation pressure and higher borrowing costs after global shocks, including the Iran conflict.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the government must deliver fiscal stability ahead of next month’s budget so it can shift focus to wider fixes, acknowledging public finances are challenging, according to the Guardian Business.

The outlet reports Burnham tied the country’s constrained room for maneuver to global economic shocks that have intensified inflation pressure in the UK and pushed borrowing costs higher, including the Iran conflict.

Ahead of his first Labour conference as prime minister, Burnham sought to reassure voters he is ready to make difficult decisions to secure fiscal stability and lay groundwork for more substantial change, the Guardian Business said.
