Bangkok declares flood disaster as worst rains in years inundate homes
The city said floodwaters have reached at least two feet, with more than 48 hours of continuous rain leaving parts of Bangkok paralyzed.
Thailand’s Bangkok declared a flood disaster after what the city described as the worst rains in years overwhelmed the Thai capital, submerging roads and forcing thousands of residents to leave their homes, according to SCMP Economy.
The outlet reported that floodwater levels have reached at least two feet, and that the drainage system is struggling to handle storm bursts as waters continue to rise.
SCMP Economy said rains have pounded the city since Wednesday, intensified on Friday, and are expected to continue with no respite forecast until late Sunday, disrupting areas across multiple districts including Pra Kanong.
A resident quoted by SCMP Economy said they have never seen flooding this bad during their years living in Bangkok.
