Bitcoin research outlines shielded, Zcash-style transfers alongside core rules

The proposed design maps private bitcoin-denominated transfers, but it does not yet provide a complete mechanism to securely lock and then release actual BTC.

CoinDesk reports that researchers have developed a plan for private, bitcoin-denominated transfers that would run alongside Bitcoin’s existing rules, similar in concept to privacy features used by Zcash.

According to CoinDesk, the work maps out how shielded transfers could operate, while still leaving a key gap.

The system, as described, lacks a finished method to lock up real BTC and later release it again, limiting how fully private value could be implemented.
