UK government works on new laws to curb concert ticket touts
The UK government has stepped up work on new laws aimed at stopping concert ticket touts that it says fleece fans, according to the Guardian Business.
The push comes as Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces pressure from artists including Tinie Tempah and Mike Joyce, the Smiths drummer, to follow through on a pledge to outlaw for-profit ticket resales on platforms such as Viagogo and StubHub.
Starmer previously said the government would stop fans from being ripped off by outlawing for-profit resale, a pledge Labour first made in its 2024 election manifesto.
Despite support from a range of globally known artists, including Radiohead, Dua Lipa and Coldplay, the measure was not included in this year’s king's Speech, the article says.
