Puffer readies Google Cloud gateway to speed Ethereum payment guarantees

The system is in testing, with UniFi and Puffer’s Preconf issuing guarantees before on-chain settlement, according to CryptoSlate.

Ethereum payments can feel slow even when users expect instant confirmation, as settlement can take time after a wallet or app displays a completed transfer. Crypto companies are exploring ways to provide earlier reassurance while the blockchain finishes settling in the background, CryptoSlate reports.

On Sept. 22, Puffer said Google Cloud would operate a gateway that receives Ethereum transactions and guarantees their results before settlement. CryptoSlate adds that Puffer’s UniFi network is expected to be the first to use the setup, with Puffer’s Preconf service issuing the guarantees.

As of Sept. 23, CryptoSlate reports that both UniFi and Puffer Preconf were still operating in a testing environment. The outlet also notes that real performance with customers using real money has yet to be established.
