South Africa police investigate two shootings that killed 27
One attack in Wedela township, about 80 km from Johannesburg, left 17 people dead and 15 injured at a tavern, police said.
South African police are investigating two separate shootings in the country that killed 27 people within hours, highlighting ongoing concerns about gun violence, Reuters reported.
Officials were still working to determine the motives behind the attacks near Johannesburg and Cape Town. Initial investigations suggested one incident could involve a turf war between illegal miners, while the other may have stemmed from a business rivalry.
In Wedela township, about 80 km from Johannesburg, suspects armed with AK-47 rifles opened fire at a tavern at around 9:30 pm on Saturday, police said. The shooting left 17 people dead and 15 injured.
