Aon launches lifecycle insurance program for conventional gas power projects
The London-market-backed Power Lifecycle Program offers up to $2.5 billion in coverage across a project’s full development arc.
Aon plc has launched a London-market-backed lifecycle insurance solution aimed at covering conventional gas power projects across their full development timeline, including both construction and ongoing operations.
The program, called the Power Lifecycle Program, is designed to consolidate risks that arise when insurance coverage has traditionally been arranged in sequence, leaving gaps during handovers between phases that can affect schedules and revenue at risk.
The move comes as data center electricity demand accelerates investment in conventional power generation, with the International Energy Agency reporting data center electricity consumption grew by nearly 20 percent in 2025 and could reach about 950 terawatt-hours by 2030.
According to the report, gas-fired generation is absorbing much of the growth because renewables cannot reliably deliver on-demand flexibility, increasing the importance of how power project risks are insured over time.
