Chainlink rolls out CCIP 2.0 with cross-chain verifier checks
The update lets banks run a second cross-chain verifier, reducing reliance on a single point of failure after major bridge hacks.
Chainlink has launched CCIP 2.0, a new version of its cross-chain software layer that helps banks and crypto projects transfer tokenized value, such as stablecoins, wrapped Bitcoin, and tokenized funds, between blockchains without building a bridge from scratch. Decrypt reports that the system is designed to address the problem that blockchains do not natively communicate, requiring a verification step to confirm funds move from one chain to another.
According to Decrypt, CCIP 2.0 introduces the Cross-Chain Verifier, or CCV, which allows institutions to run their own verifier or hire one from firms like Infosys or Nethermind as an additional guard before a transfer clears. The outlet says this is meant to tackle the historical pattern of bridges being compromised by relying on a single verifier.
Decrypt also notes that CCIP 2.0 starter kits are available on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. The story states that Chainlink still runs its default verification approach beneath the new configurable setup.
