GIFT Nifty points to muted start for Indian stocks on Sept. 28
The outlook also ties market caution to geopolitical uncertainty and a crude oil rebound after the U.S. rejected Iran's Strait of Hormuz proposal.
India's stock market is expected to open on a muted note on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, with GIFT Nifty trading around 23,161.5, down nearly 25.2 points from the previous close on Nifty futures, signaling a softer start for Indian indices, according to LiveMint Markets.
LiveMint Markets also notes that Asian markets were mixed and that U.S. stock futures were weak, after U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Iran's latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The report links the cautious tone in India to renewed geopolitical uncertainty and an oil price rebound that could weigh on investor sentiment, with the rejection raising concerns about prolonged supply disruptions.
In the prior session, the BSE Sensex rebounded on Friday, rising 315.2 points, or 0.43%, after value buying in blue chip stocks across sectors including banking, oil and gas, and automobiles, the outlet said.
