Hong Kong murder trial jury discharged for health reasons, delaying openings
A deputy judge accepted a juror’s health request and ordered a new panel so jury selection follows legal precedent.
Hong Kong’s High Court discharged a recently empaneled jury in the murder trial of Abby Choi Tin-fung’s former relatives after one juror asked to be excused for health reasons, causing the case to be delayed.
Deputy Judge Brian Keith told the seven men and two women on Monday that he had accepted the request and that a new panel must be formed to ensure jury selection complied with legal precedent.
The prosecution had been scheduled to deliver its opening statement on Monday, laying out investigators’ account of Choi Tin-fung’s death and the disposal of her body in a Tai Po village house in February 2023.
