Hurricane Polo threatens floods and mudslides in Mexico’s Baja California Sur

Residents in Mexico’s Baja California Sur boarded up homes and began shoring up embankments as Hurricane Polo moved toward the peninsula on Monday, with threats including high winds, floods and mudslides, according to a report by SCMP Economy.

In Puerto San Carlos, a fishing town of about 5,700 people, some residents feared high tides and pounding waves could breach barriers and send seawater into the community.

Some families planned to go to shelters in Ciudad Constitucion, about 60 km away, while dozens of people elsewhere in the state were evacuated.

The report also said Hurricane Nolo could still bring torrential rain to parts of Hawaii even as it edged away from the state.
