Montage pours first gold at Côte d’Ivoire Koné mine ahead of schedule

Montage said the Sept. 26 pour yielded about 1,140 ounces after processing more than 400,000 tonnes of ore through the oxide circuit.

Montage Gold Corp. has poured first gold at its Koné mine in Côte d’Ivoire months ahead of its original timeline, marking the company’s shift from developer toward producer, Mining.com reported.

The Sept. 26 pour produced about 1,140 ounces after more than 400,000 tonnes of ore were processed through the oxide circuit since Sept. 8. Montage said the oxide circuit is expected to reach commercial production by the end of the year.

Mining.com added that construction began in December 2024, and the company previously targeted first gold for the second quarter of 2027. Montage said self-performed construction activities helped reduce capital cost requirements and optimize the schedule, while hard-rock comminution circuit construction remains on track for completion by mid-2027.

Koné has an estimated 16-year mine life and is designed to produce more than 300,000 ounces of gold over its first eight years, according to the report. Mining.com also noted BMO analyst Raj Ray characterized first gold as a major de-risking event for the transition, and said Montage shares were down 2.2% to C$19.45 on Monday.
