Shanghai Electric wins turnkey contract for Malaysia power plant equipment
The deal covers gas turbines and other equipment for Sarawak’s Samalaju Combined Cycle Power Plant, plus a 25-year maintenance service.
Shanghai Electric, a state-owned power generation and electrical equipment maker, has secured a turnkey contract to supply equipment for a power plant in Malaysia, marking a new step for China’s heavy-duty gas turbine makers in a market dominated by established foreign suppliers.
The contract is for equipment at the Samalaju Combined Cycle Power Plant in Sarawak, a major infrastructure project being developed by state utility Sarawak Energy Berhad to support rising regional demand.
Shanghai Electric said the tailor-made package includes gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, and air-cooling systems, with the company also providing a 25-year maintenance service for the main equipment.
According to SCMP Economy, the company described the deal as evidence of its integrated solutions and its ability to design and manufacture crucial components independently amid a global supply crunch.
