Toys R Us to open 120 temporary U.S. stores this holiday season

Toys R Us operator WHP Global plans to open 120 new stores across the United States this holiday season, according to Commercial Observer, citing a recent announcement.

The company is partnering with Go! Retail Group, a seasonal pop-up operator, to launch the locations, and shoppers can expect the new stores to be smaller and temporary.

Commercial Observer reports that WHP Global’s executive vice president for Toys R Us, Jamie Uitdenhowen, said the effort is meant to grow the brand in multiple formats, including stand-alone shops in hometowns and locations inside Macy's, at airports, or at Navy Exchanges.

The resurgence comes about a decade after Toys R Us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2017, which led to mass closures worldwide and affected roughly 33,000 employees, Commercial Observer added.
