Copper Intelligence and CoTec form JV to process DRC copper tailings

The joint venture plans to seek funding from the US International Development Finance Corporation once projects reach sufficient scale.

Copper Intelligence and CoTec Holdings have formed a joint venture to process historical copper tailings in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as demand for the metal continues to rise, Mining.com reports.

The partnership will target copper-tailings opportunities in the DRC’s historical copper districts, where mining waste has been generated since the 1950s.

Mining.com says the companies plan to pursue project funding from the US International Development Finance Corporation and other sources after initiatives reach sufficient scale.

The deal also comes as copper trades near record levels amid expectations that electricity, infrastructure, and data-centre demand will strain global supplies, according to Mining.com.
