Glendale panel advances controversial 160-acre data center for city vote

A Glendale Planning Commission vote has moved a controversial 160-acre data center campus closer to approval, with the panel recommending that the project go to Glendale city council, according to Bisnow.
The commission voted 4-2 on Sept. 24 to advance rezoning for Project Eagle, previously known as Project Baccara, with the project described as building three 330,000-square-foot data centers and 18 natural gas power generation turbines.
The development, proposed by Michigan-based developer Takanock LLC, would be located in unincorporated Maricopa County near Luke Air Force Base, and it had received a military compatibility permit earlier this year, the report said.
Bisnow also noted that local opposition has centered on environmental concerns, including water and noise, and that if approved the site would be rezoned from heavy industrial to planned area development, with a city council vote expected at the end of October.
