Harmony wheat sustainability initiative to scale as independent certification
The program, which already includes 1,200 farmers across Europe, will be governed by the ProTerra Foundation and is open to participants in the European wheat value chain.
World Grain reports that Harmony, a wheat sustainability initiative launched by Mondelez International in France, is ready to scale across Europe as an independent certification scheme after 20 years of development.
The outlet said the initiative has brought together 1,200 farmers across Europe and is evolving into a certification program open to participants in the European wheat value chain, governed by the ProTerra Foundation, a nonprofit focused on sustainability certification systems.
World Grain added that the shift reflects growing expectations from consumers, customers, and regulators for sustainability systems that are transparent and independently verified, and it aims to make Harmony’s framework available to a wider set of actors across the value chain.
The outlet also said Mondelez will continue supporting innovation, pilot projects, and farmer engagement while remaining a member that contributes to the scheme’s ongoing development.
