Hong Kong Hospital Authority deploys AI and robotic arms at new centre
The six-storey facility in Tung Chung, on Lantau Island, began operations in March and supplies about half of public hospitals’ laundry and meal demand.
Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority has rolled out artificial intelligence and robotic automation at its new support services centre to handle laundry processing and meal production for public hospitals, aiming to improve efficiency and worker safety.
According to SCMP Economy, the six-storey, 62,000-square-metre centre, located in Tung Chung on Lantau Island, supports both the central laundry and food production unit.
The facility, which has been in operations since March last year and opened to the press on Tuesday, meets about half of public hospitals’ laundry and meal demand, using X-ray sorting, robotic arms and cook-chill kitchen technology.
