India sees Apple iPhone 18 Pro frenzy, sparking affordability debate
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at 164,900 rupees, while the Pro Max ranges up to 329,900 rupees, fueling concerns about consumer debt.
Tens of thousands of shoppers packed Apple stores in India this month to buy the newest iPhone models, the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, a spending surge that has triggered public debate about affordability and consumer debt, according to SCMP Economy.
The iPhone 18 Pro is priced from 164,900 rupees to 179,000 rupees, while the 18 Pro Max starts at 179,900 rupees and rises to 329,900 rupees.
SCMP Economy said some customers stood in line for hours, and noted India has become one of Apple’s fastest growing sales markets, with the country described as the world’s second-largest smartphone market by volume.
