John Lee tells Hong Kong media to dispel falsehoods and expand reach
Speaking at a PRC founding anniversary event, Hong Kong’s chief executive urged news workers to promote stories about mainland China and Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said the city’s media should eliminate falsehoods and expand its global reach.
Speaking Tuesday at an event marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Lee outlined two expectations for media, including safeguarding the truth, dispelling falsehoods, and promoting positive coverage.
Lee also urged media workers to act as “spokespeople” for good stories about mainland China and Hong Kong, using a Chinese idiom that translates as “draining away filth and ushering in fresh water.”
